Petit Castel wine is a burgundy-style blend, the second wine from Castel Winery. The grape varieties that make up the wine are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Patty Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. The wine is grown for 16 months in French oak barrels. Petit Castel has a color that tends to have a royal purple, and is a full-bodied wine, refined tannins and a harmonious balance between the flavors of wood and fruit.
Vineyards are planted in the Jerusalem mountains, at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level. Most of the vineyards are planted on terraces, facing north and some in a deep wadi facing northwest, where sun exposure is short-lived during the day.
Carmino, planted in the Jerusalem mountains facing the Mediterranean Sea, enjoys a combination of hot summer and cool Mediterranean breezes. In winter, the vineyards are saturated with above-average precipitation (about 700 mm per season). Little snow falls in most winters in the area, but no real storms. Professor Amos Hadas, an expert in soil science and viticulture, has positioned Carmino in terms of the microclimate in the area, far north of their actual location. The soil consists of a mixture of terra rosa soil, clay and limestone: rocky and ventilated soil in which the water permeates well, especially in light of the fact that the vineyards are planted on a slope.
This is an ideal “wine country” soil, very similar to the growing areas of the best vineyards in the world.
