"Nikka whiskey from the barre" (Nikka whiskey from the barre) - is the full name of this award-winning Japanese whiskey. This is an edition of blended whiskey from the Nika company which comes in an elegant and beautiful half-liter bottle, with a very impressive alcohol percentage of 51.4%! It is not cask strength but simply the company's choice to bottle the whiskey at a high strength. Nika from the cask contains single malt whiskey from Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries and grain whiskey of course. While it does not carry an age statement, some of the blend includes aged whiskey. There is a variety of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels of different sizes (also hogshead barrels), and in order to create a uniform blend, a fermentation process is carried out for all the ingredients in the barrels for several months before bottling.
מדובר בוויסקי מאוד אקספרסיבי. האף שלו עשיר ומיד יוצאים החוצה ניחוחות שבעיקר קשורים לחביות השרי שבבלנד עם פירות יער טריים ומשהו תפוזי ומאוד מרוכז. כמה דקות בכוס מאפשרות לריחות נוספים לצאת – שוקולד, והוניל והקוקוס הקלאסיים של חביות אקס-בורבון. בפה הוא ממש מתפוצץ וניחן בגוף מלא כיאה לאחוז האלכוהול הגבוה בו הוא מגיע. כאן דווקא חביות האקס-בורבון באות לידי ביטוי עם וניל וקרמל, דבש וטעמי קלייה. הסיומת ארוכה מאוד וחמה.
זהו וויסקי חורף מובהק, שצריך כמה דקות טובות בכוס להירגע ויכול גם לקבל תוספת של כמה טיפות מים שימתנו אותו. הבקבוק נוטף סטייל יפני של פשטות ושלמות, בהחלט מתנה יפה לכל חובב וויסקי.
