Nika Taylor is the newest whiskey launched by the Japanese Nika company. What began as a limited and one-off edition in 2014 in honor of the company's eighty-year anniversary, has gained great demand and has become a permanent product - but is produced in relatively small quantities and is not available worldwide. Nika Taylor is a blended whiskey that consists mainly of Nika's two single malt whiskeys - Miyagikyo from Honshu, which has a floral and relatively light character, and Yuichi from Hokkaido, which has a smoky and fruity character. Both are supplemented with grain whiskey, which also comes from the Miyagikyo distillery and gives the blend a little more lightness. The Taylor exhibits the characteristics of the three types of whiskey that make up it in impressive balance, and is an excellent example of a balanced whiskey blend made by an artisan. On the nose, it is fruity and very fresh with aromas of apple, peach, nectarine and dried apricot. There is also lemon and orange peel here and in the background something reminiscent of bitter cocoa powder. On the palate it initially feels sweet and buttery with a little vanilla, but a moment later the mouth receives flavors of dark chocolate and ripe orange, literally orange marmalade. On the finish there are elements from the nose and palate together with vanilla and a little coffee and apple. Blended Japanese-style whiskey – rich but light, precise and suitable for drinkers of all levels from beginners to the most experienced. Nika recommends serving it alongside quality dark chocolate, which emphasizes its properties and flavor.
